Remote Control Plane

Flying remote control planes has become one of the fastest growing hobbies. It is easy to see why. For a small monetary investment you can take part in some of the greatest planes of the past. Some of these planes are no longer even made, most relics of the great planes of World War I and World War II are collecting dust somewhere in a museum, and will never fly again. However, with remote control planes the sky is the limit. You can get behind all of your childhood fantasies of being that ace fighter pilot. For many novice to this budding hobbyist field can seem like a daunting task to get into. All of those buttons and knobs can deter many would be RC plane hopefuls away. Also, while the expense to get into the field is not too expensive, it is expensive enough that for someone just getting involved, it could be hard to know what to spend your first purchase on.

Buying A Gas or Electric Remote Control Plane

Your first purchase should be a mix of fun, functionality, and performance. You don't want anything too cheap, because the quality of your remote control plane will effect your first experiences with it. So, you want to get a craft that will handle well, but if it accidentally takes a tumble it will not kill your bank account either. The second question you are going to face is to either buy gas or electric. Electric is most likely the best option for the beginner since all you have to do is charge the battery back, and away you go! Also, gas planes present its own unique challenges such as the flammability of the fuel, the cost involved in purchasing that fuel, and the recovery of your aircraft in case of a spill. In a local field near my home that is donated exclusively to flying remote control planes, the fire department is routinely called in to extinguish a gasoline fire from a plane that was gone down threatening the surrounding parkland. So take these factors into account when buying your first remote control plane.

Make Sure You Buy... Ready to Fly

The third factor that you should consider is the flyability of the aircraft that you are going to purchase. Go online and research what people are saying about the remote control plane that you are looking into purchasing. Remember too that not all RC aircraft are ready to fly right out of the box. Some require some model building, while others require days or even weeks of model building until they are sky worthy. So take your time in the research process and make sure you talk with several vendors. For your first plane you are going to want to go with a ready to fly model, which after an hour or so out of the box should be ready to take to the skies. Finally, you are going to need a place to fly your new beloved remote control airplane. Not any open field or empty parking lot will do. You are going to need to search out a place that is designated for RC aircraft flight. Since the hobby has incurred a renewed interest in recent years this should not be a hard thing to find if you already do not have a place in mind for your first flight. Enjoy! The glorious world of remote control plane flight has now been opened up for you. Remember to bring with you your sense of adventure as you take to the air in your wonderful new toy. Also give yourself a good dose of patience as well for as a novice you are bound to make mistakes. Remember no one becomes a flying ace the first time out of the box!
